Healthy Activities
Promotion Project for You (HAPPY)
A Wellness Campaign

Healthy
Activities Promotion Project for You (HAPPY) was created by Aban to
encourage District of Columbia residents to engage in healthier
lifestyles and to improve their health and well
being.
Our goal is
to:
- Increase knowledge
about wellness
- Promote exercise
and healthier living activities
- Encourage
prevention, early detection, and treatment of chronic
illnesses
We
believe it is possible to transform DC into a healthier city. Yes
we can! However, we recognize it will require a sustained and
collaborative effort from across section of individuals,
organizations, agencies, and businesses who share a similar belief.
We hope you are the one. Join us and become a partner or sponsor
for these events.
Every
Saturday, during late spring and early fall, we focus on a
particular health issue and invite anyone who has a wellness
resource to partner with us and provide their services,
information, resource for free to the community. In the past five
years we had over 1800 residents receive benefits of our health
activities.
Through
partnerships, we provide free HIV/AIDS testings, dental screening,
cardiovascular screening, obesity prevention, youth health, roller
skating demonstrations, education savings information, health
insurance, and other wellness promotion resources. Guest speakers
have conducted special presentations on financial literacy,
alternative health and nutrition, and navigating web based health
resources.
You can help make
this a great year for our health activities by becoming a
sponsor.
Thanks to our current sponsors:

WOMEN'S HEALTH
FORUM

In
celebration of Women's Health Month in May, Aban held two forums by
women for women's health at the new Benning Road Library in
Northeast, Washington, DC. These interactive and engaging forums
provide residents the opportunity to learn, share and feel inspired
about living a healthier lifestyle. It also encouraged participants
to jumpstart their wellness activities with solutions on a variety
of health topics. We are very pleased with our presenters and have
included their bios and contact information. Thank you to Results
Gym for sponsoring a 3 month membership to one of our lucky
participant.

Roller Skate at Anacostia Park Roller
Skating Pavilion

We encourage residents to become more physically
active and utilize the roller skating pavilion as a resource.
Anacostia Park Roller Skating Pavilion is the only roller skating
facility in the District owned and operated by the National Park
Service. It is free and open to the public year
round.
Roller skating is a multi-generational activity with
many health benefits. Roller skating is recognized as an excellent
cardiovascular activity that helps to tone and strengthen lower
body extremities, while building muscle mass and reducing body fat.
It does not put stress on bones. Most of all it helps to strengthen
lungs while increasing heart rate. In other words, roller skating
is an excellent fat burner and improves breathing.
Bring your family and friends and join us at the
Pavilion. Together we can live longer healthier happier
lives.
We are pleased to have
written an article in the Washington Informer's Health and Wellness
Supplement for Older American's Month this May on Wellness at Any
Age. Download the supplement here: Washington Informer
article.
